A FRAMED LIMITED EDITION COLOR LITHOGRAPH (Entitled: "Flowers") Dated: 1964. For The Leo Castelli Gallery, 1964, Edition Of Only 300. N ow HIGHLY REDUCED to WAY BELOW MARKET VALUE!! Iconic POP ART artist ANDY WARHOL was born in PITTSBURGH and worked in NEW YORK CITY.

He is considered to be the greatest artist of the American POP-ART movement, which he co-founded in New York in the 1960s. Warhol was originally an illustrator and commercial artist, and much in demand in the 1950s.

By the early-1960s he had started to form the concept and first paintings of the burgeoning POP ART movement. Often taking as his basis photographic images of popular figures (MARILYN MONROE, JACKIE KENNEDY, ELIZABETH TAYLOR) he would transfer these images crudely to a color silkscreen press, often painting over the resulting inked images with acrylic paints as well. The results were bold, vivid, stunning ---and immediately recognizable by everyone. Andy Warhol was also a prolific film director (the movies: EMPIRE STATE BUILDING; CHELSEA GIRLS; HEAT; BAD and FLESH and many, many others).

He was also a talented photographer, never without a Kodak Instamatic or a Polaroid "instant" camera; and a highly original writer and instigator of the band THE VELVET UNDERGROUND as well as creating and publishing the legendary "Andy Warhol's Interview" magazine. His life was cut tragically short by a botched gall bladder operation in hospital and he died there after a cardiac arrest at the age of 58. 1964 OFFSET LITHOGRAPH, SIGNED, MATTED & FRAMED. Depicting Andy Warhol's iconic "Flowers" image, this is a LIMITED EDITION, made specially for a Warhol SOLO EXHIBITION at his dealer's legendary LEO CASTELLI GALLERY in New York City. The lithograph was made to announce or commemorate the gallery's Warhol solo show. ONLY 300 were made and SIGNED in felt-tip pen for collectors, and lucky members of the public, by Andy, at the opening reception. They were all signed that evening and when the stack ran out (only 300 copies) no more were made! These are very well-known works and, on the lower edge, are printed the words. Andy Warhol November 17-December 28th, 1964 / Leo Castelli / 4 E. In the case of this particular hand-signed example the information, above, was covered by the matte when framing. However, as you can see, a photograph was fortunately taken of the printed byline text BEFORE the print was framed by the collector who was gifted it by Warhol at the reception. That was this collector's choice to do but the information is all there, should the new owner prefer to re-frame and expose the text. The text is perfectly intact. HAND-SIGNED in the lower-left: Andy Warhol. DATED, in the printed text: 1964. Image view-size measures: 21" x 21" (53.5 cm x 53.5 cm). Total sheet-size measures: 27 1/2" x 23" (70 cm x 58.5 cm). Modern wood frame measures: 31" x 31 " (79 cm x 79 cm). A massively dramatic and powerfully VIVID Andy Warhol image! It is a highly-collectible Andy Warhol RARE printing, recorded in the annals of the Leo Castelli Gallery.
