JOSEF HERMAN RA - Potato Harvest. A vintage limited edition Lithograph of a 1959 watercolour of the same name, Potato Harvest. This work is rarely seen for sale and is a fine example of Herman's compositions of this era (after his move to Wales) that capture the'dignity of the ordinary and the everyday' showing sculptural body forms with black lines that give the figures a real substance. It was printed by Graphis Press Ltd, Highbury, London N1 for Roland Browse and Delbanco Cork St art dealers, the Roland family being the original owners of the watercolour. Signed and numbered from the edition of 75 in pencil by the artist, never framed and in original condition.

The work is in its own sleeve with the original item detail label. Provenance: Estate of Roland family - a photo. The printer's envelope addressed to the dealer in 1960. Is shown in the photos.

Measurements: 275 x 342mm (10 3/4 x 13 1/2in) on wove paper. Born in the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw in 1911, Herman was one of a generation of Eastern European artists who fled persecution to live and work abroad. A highly regarded painter who influenced British contemporary art, working people - miners, grape-pickers, fishermen - were the most frequent subjects of his artistic endeavours.

His art started to be recognised in the 50s and 60s during a number of one man shows in the UK. He was awarded OBE for his services to British Art in 1981 and in 1990 became a Royal Academician.
